With an average unemployment rate of 26.5% in the Mother City and roughly 7000 homeless people there is a great need for employment iniaitves in the area. As there is a wealth of untapped and willing talent yearning for an opportunity to improve their quality of life the Woodstock Improvement District (WID) has a vision to empower homeless women in the area through an income generating sewing product.
More than a handful of women have joined the project and working from the offices of WID the avid sewers will meet three times a week to create handmade scatter cusions, scarves and aprons. These handmade goods will be sold with the sole purpose of all profits going directly to the new seamstresses.
